Rebecca made her debut at the BBC Proms on Sunday July 20 to a packed and very appreciative Royal Albert Hall for the first ever BBC Sports Prom with the BBC Concert Orchestra and the Crouch End Festival Chorus. Thousands attended and many more tuned into the live broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and BBC Radio 5 Live (the first ever concert broadcast on 5Live).
The programme brought together the words of music and sport, and attracted new audiences from around the world, all tweeting about their newfound enthusiasm for classical music.
A varied programme included:
Prokofiev's 'Montagues and Capulets' from Romeo and Juliet, Shostkovich's 'Golden Age', Ravel's 'Une Barque sur l'Ocean', Waldteufel's 'Skater's Waltz', Orff's 'O Fortuna' from Carmina Burana, John Williams' 'Summon the Heroes', Strauss' 'Sport Polka', and many iconic BBC Sports theme tunes.
The enthusiasm of the packed arena was such that during the encore ('Ski Sunday'), audience and chorus alike erupted into no fewer than 6 rounds of the very first Proms Mexican Wave.
